What You Can Expect
Your First Step Toward Healing
It takes courage to call for an appointment and even more to walk through the door of a counselling office. Dr. Gail helps to reduce the anxiety by providing a calming and relaxing office. Some clients report that it is like sitting in a living room talking with someone who is willing to listen without judgement. At the beginning of the first session, we will review the Client Information Sheet for Psychological Services, which discusses items such as the limits of confidentiality, notetaking, timing of appointments and payment. After the paperwork, the rest of the session is about getting to know you, your relevant history, what you would like to achieve, and how we can make that happen.
It is about making a plan that is realistic for you, not the therapist.
That’s why Dr. Gail uses several different types of therapy models – there is no one method that works for every situation or person. It is difficult to say how many sessions are required for an issue. However, practicing skills learned during session may help the number of sessions required. It is about trusting the process and be willing to take the risk of being vulnerable during sessions.
A Private and Confidential Space
What you can also expect is privacy. Dr. Gail is in a solo practice. There are no other therapists in the office and a generous time buffer between sessions helps to protect your confidentiality. You don’t run the risk of running into other therapist’s clients and there is a low risk of crossing paths with someone in the office.
Making Payment Simple and Stress-Free
Direct billing is available for numerous extended health coverage programs, such as Alberta Blue Cross, Medavie Blue Cross (Veteran Affairs Canada), ASEBP, Canada Life (just to name a few). The coverage varies depending on what your company has purchased. For example, some companies have purchased a maximum per session or per day, meaning coverage can range from $50.00 to $235.00. Longer sessions may not be covered. To verify daily session coverage and your yearly limit, please review your policy or contact your Human Resources office for clarification.
If your company does not have direct billing, full coverage, or there is no additional coverage, payment is made at the end of each session. Payment can be made through e-transfer (only payment available for virtual sessions), debit, mastercard or visa. You will receive a receipt through email that provides the necessary information for you to make a claim or save for tax purposes.
